USF BASKETBALL GYM- w/ Hornberger + Worstell. 2017

The basketball gymnasium at the University of San Francisco was designed by Milton T. Pflueger an was opened in 1958. The gym has been home to the athletic departments, training rooms, volleyball and basketball teams, and in the mid 60’s even the home to the San Francisco Warriors.

Hornberger + Worstell was asked by the university to bring new life to the historical building by prioritizing campus- side entrances, and tying the work into the ongoing campus-wide renovations. My time on the project included helping out with three phases of the project. Phase 1: Seismic retrofit, stair demolition in anticipation of the elevator shaft, elevator construction and restroom renovations. Phase 2: Subterranean mechanical room addition. Phase 3: Creation of two new entrances expanding past the existing building envelope and the addition of a club area with designated seating. I was involved in the design, coordination and construction management of the restroom renovations, structural upgrades and elevator construction. In the later phases, I took part in the design of the new south entry addition, the design of the club space and coordination work of the mechanical system.
